Our founder, James Pemberton, started Soundproofing Auckland after one too many complaints from his neighbours about his home workshop (ironic, we know). As an acoustic engineer with a degree from the University of Auckland, he figured he should probably use his skills to actually solve noise problems rather than create them.
What started as helping out mates and family has grown into a proper business. Nine years on, we’re still learning something new with every job.

James has been doing this for over 10 years and is a member of the Acoustical Society of New Zealand. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) from the University of Auckland and has handled everything from houses under the airport flight path in Māngere to noisy cafes on Queen Street. Still gets excited about tricky noise problems.
Emily Wilson - Head of Residential Projects
Emily’s been with us since day one and lives in Mt Eden, so she knows exactly what it’s like dealing with thin villa walls and close neighbours. She’s managed over 200 residential installs and has certifications in construction management. Makes sure everything’s done properly and meets Building Code requirements.
Kieran Lui - Commercial Specialist
Kieran runs our commercial work from the North Shore. Eight years in the game, specializing in bigger jobs like offices, restaurants, and gyms. He’s particularly good at working around business hours so you don’t have to close down while we’re working.
Sophie Patel - Acoustic Consultant
Sophie’s our technical specialist with a Master’s degree in Acoustics. She moved up from Wellington to join us and handles the complicated stuff - vibration issues, detailed noise surveys, and customised solutions for spaces that need something special beyond standard soundproofing.
