Ceiling and Floor Soundproofing in Auckland

Hearing every footstep from upstairs? Noise from your flat travelling down to the neighbours below? Sound leaking between office floors? We’ll stop it.

We’ve been installing ceiling and floor soundproofing around Auckland since 2015. This is one of the most common problems in multi-level buildings, apartments, townhouses, offices, commercial spaces. Sound travels between floors more than people realise, and it’s one of the biggest complaints we hear.

Good news is, it’s fixable. We install soundproofing that stops both impact noise (footsteps, furniture) and airborne sound (voices, music, TV) so each level of your building is actually separate.

Why Soundproof Between Floors?

Living or working in a multi-level building comes with noise challenges:

Stop Hearing Your Neighbours

Every footstep from the flat above. Their TV. Their kids running around. Furniture scraping across the floor. It all comes through poorly insulated floors and ceilings. You shouldn’t have to live with that.

Stop Being the Noisy Neighbour

Maybe you’re the one getting complaints. Your footsteps are too loud for the people below. Your home theatre system rattles their ceiling. Your office noise disturbs the business downstairs. Proper soundproofing fixes it from both directions.

Privacy Matters

Conversations shouldn’t travel between floors. Your bedroom shouldn’t share sound with the flat above. Office discussions shouldn’t leak to other levels. Thin floors mean no privacy, we fix that.

Better Quality of Life

Constant noise from above or below affects your sleep, your ability to concentrate, your enjoyment of your own space. It’s one of the top reasons people move out of apartments and townhouses. Proper soundproofing means you can actually relax in your own home.

Property Value

Good soundproofing between floors makes a property more appealing. Buyers and renters pay attention to noise issues. Fix it properly and your place is worth more.

Our Soundproofing Solutions

Every building has different floor construction, so we assess your specific situation and recommend what’ll actually work:

Ceiling Soundproofing

Stop noise from the level above coming through your ceiling:

Acoustic Panels and Treatments

Absorb sound and reduce echo. Good for rooms where you want to improve overall acoustics while also blocking noise from above.

Soundproof Insulation

High-density insulation materials installed in your ceiling cavity. This blocks sound transmission effectively, both impact noise and airborne sound.

Suspended Ceiling Systems

Creates an additional barrier between floors. The suspended system isolates vibrations and adds an extra layer of sound blocking. Particularly effective in commercial buildings and apartments with concrete floors above.

Resilient Channels

These decouple the ceiling from the structure above, preventing vibration transfer. One of the most effective methods for stopping impact noise.

Floor Soundproofing

Stop noise travelling down to the level below:

Underfloor Insulation

Adding insulation beneath your flooring significantly reduces noise transfer. Works with most floor types and can often be done without removing existing floors, depending on access.

Acoustic Underlays

Installed beneath carpets, hardwood floors, laminate, or vinyl. These absorb sound and minimise impact noise from footsteps and furniture. Particularly effective for impact noise reduction.

Floating Floor Systems

A floating floor sits on acoustic underlays and isn’t directly attached to the subfloor below. This isolates vibrations and dramatically reduces noise transmission. One of the most effective solutions for serious noise problems.

Mass-Loaded Vinyl

Dense, flexible material that adds mass to your floor without taking up much space. Excellent for blocking airborne sound.

The Soundproofing Process

We keep it straightforward:

Assessment

We come look at your space and assess the floor/ceiling construction. What’s letting sound through? What access do we have? What’s the best solution for your situation and budget?

Sometimes it’s obvious, thin floors with no insulation. Sometimes the problem is more complex, sound travelling through air gaps, poor seals around penetrations, vibration transfer through the structure. We’ve got the experience to work it out.

Custom Plan

Based on what we find, we’ll tell you what you need. We’ll give you options:

  • Basic solution that makes a noticeable improvement
  • Mid-range solution that significantly reduces noise
  • Premium solution that provides maximum sound isolation

You decide what makes sense for your situation and budget. We’re not here to oversell.

Professional Installation

We install the soundproofing properly using quality materials.

For ceiling work, we might need to remove and replace ceiling linings, install insulation and resilient channels, then reinstate and finish. For floor work, we might install underlays, floating floor systems, or add mass-loaded vinyl depending on the approach.

Most residential jobs are done in a few days. We work cleanly and efficiently, and we clean up after ourselves.

Testing and Follow-Up

Once installed, we check that it’s working as it should. If something’s not right, we’ll fix it. We stand behind our work.
