Acoustic Consulting in Auckland
Not sure what you need? We’ll assess your space and tell you what’ll actually work.
Sometimes the noise problem isn’t obvious. Sometimes you’re not sure if soundproofing will help. Sometimes you need expert advice before spending money on solutions that might not fix the issue. That’s what acoustic consulting is for.
We’ve been doing this around Auckland since 2015. We assess your space, measure noise levels, identify where sound is coming from and where it’s going, then give you clear recommendations about what’ll fix it. Professional advice based on nearly ten years of experience, not guesswork.
Why Get Acoustic Consulting?
Before You Spend Money
Soundproofing isn’t cheap. You want to know it’ll actually work before you commit. We’ll tell you what’s achievable, what it’ll cost, and whether it’s worth doing. Sometimes the fix is simple. Sometimes it’s complex. We’ll give you honest advice either way.
Complex Noise Problems
Some situations are tricky. Noise coming from multiple sources. Weird acoustic issues where sound bounces around strangely. Vibration problems. Commercial spaces with specific requirements. These need expert assessment, not generic solutions.
New Builds and Renovations
Planning a new build or major renovation? Get the acoustics right from the start. Much easier and cheaper to build soundproofing in than retrofit it later. We’ll consult on your plans and tell you what to include.
Regulatory Compliance
Some commercial spaces need to meet specific acoustic standards. Recording studios, performance venues, commercial buildings near residential areas. We’ll assess whether you’re compliant and what you need to do if you’re not.
Optimising Existing Spaces
Got a home studio that doesn’t sound right? Office where sound bounces around too much? Meeting room with terrible acoustics? We’ll assess what’s wrong and recommend acoustic treatments that’ll improve it.
What We Do
Initial Consultation
Get in touch and we’ll talk about your situation. What type of space, what noise issues you’re dealing with, what you’re trying to achieve, what your budget looks like. This helps us understand if consulting makes sense and what the scope might be.
Comprehensive Assessment
We come to your site and do a thorough assessment:
Measure Noise Levels
We use professional sound level meters to measure actual noise levels. How loud is it? What frequencies? When does it happen? This gives us objective data, not just subjective complaints.
Identify Noise Sources
Where’s the noise actually coming from? Sometimes it’s obvious (traffic, noisy neighbours). Sometimes it’s not (sound travelling through unexpected paths, vibration transfer through the structure, air gaps you didn’t know existed).
Analyse Sound Paths
How is sound travelling through your space? Through walls, floors, ceilings? Through air gaps around doors and windows? Via ductwork or pipes? We work out all the paths sound is taking.
Assess Room Acoustics
If it’s an acoustic quality issue rather than just noise, we assess how sound behaves in your space. Echo, reverberation, standing waves, dead spots. We identify what’s causing poor acoustics.
Review Building Construction
Different construction types have different acoustic properties. We assess your building’s structure, materials, age, and any existing soundproofing or acoustic treatments.
Detailed Report
After the assessment, we provide a detailed report covering:
What We Found
Clear explanation of your noise issues. What’s causing them, how sound is travelling, what the actual measurements showed.
Recommendations
Specific solutions that’ll fix your problems. We give you options at different price points:
- Basic improvements that’ll make a noticeable difference
- Mid-range solutions that significantly reduce noise
- Premium solutions for maximum sound control
Expected Results
Realistic expectations about what each solution will achieve. We won’t promise complete silence if it’s not achievable. We tell you what improvement you can actually expect.
Cost Estimates
Rough costs for the recommended solutions so you can make an informed decision.
Implementation Plan
How the work would be done, how long it would take, what disruption to expect.
Ongoing Support
After you get our report, we’re available to answer questions, clarify recommendations, or adjust the plan based on your feedback. If you decide to go ahead with the work, we can handle the installation or work with your preferred contractor.

The Process
Step 1: Get In Touch
Call or message us. We’ll have an initial conversation about your situation and work out if acoustic consulting makes sense.
Step 2: Site Visit
We come to your space and do the assessment. This usually takes a few hours depending on the complexity. We measure, analyse, and gather all the information we need.
Step 3: Report
Within a week or so, you get a detailed report with our findings and recommendations. Clear, practical advice about what’ll fix your problems.
Step 4: Discussion
We go through the report with you, answer questions, discuss options. You decide whether to proceed and which solutions make sense for you.
Step 5: Implementation (Optional)
If you want us to handle the work, we’ll schedule installation. If you’re using another contractor, we can provide specifications and be available for questions.
Cost
Acoustic consulting is charged separately from any installation work. The cost depends on the complexity of the assessment and the size of your space.
For most residential properties, expect to pay for a thorough assessment and detailed report. Commercial projects and larger spaces cost more due to the additional complexity.
This might seem like an extra expense, but it can save you money. Better to spend a bit on proper assessment than thousands on soundproofing that doesn’t work because you didn’t identify the real problem.
If you proceed with installation work based on our recommendations, we can often credit the consulting fee against the installation cost.
